Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

Cumbernauld Colts (2) v Dumbarton (3)

Monday 2nd July 2018, Kick Off

Pre-season friendlies

WHO needs the World Cup last 16 to see a team win from 2-0 down?

While most of the world was watching Belgium do that against Japan, Dumbarton won in exactly the same fashion at Cumbernauld Colts.

If they wanted to test their resolve after going two goals behind, they certainly did that. Barely 20 minutes had gone when Jordan Marshall and Paul Nash had scored for the home side.

But Greg Pascazio's own goal was one back for Sons, and trialists Andy Little and Iain Russell completed the turnaround in the second half.

It was 'don't panic' when Dumbarton were behind, so nobody should be getting ahead of themselves in victory. However, two wins and six goals from the opening pre-season outings is positive going.

The opener came on six minutes when Marshall thrashed the ball beyond the reach of trialist keeper Jamie McGowan from 30 yards.

McGowan then saved from Fraser Team at close range, but was beaten again on 22 minutes when Nash scored from the edge of the box.

A minute before half time trialist Kieran Campbell claimed another assist to add to the one he got on Saturday. Unfortunately for Pascazio, he was the one on the end of it, beating his own keeper to give Sons one back.

That got things going for the second half and after Ryan Thomson and then Campbell went close, Ross Forbes' shot from distance was turned away by the keeper.

On 66 minutes came a big escape when a slack passback led to McGowan being rounded by Team, but he recovered to touch the shot over.

And three minutes later Dumbarton showed how to punish a slack passback. Russell charged the ball down from the keeper, played it back after being forced wide, and Little could not miss.

The two swapped places with five minutes left when Little crossed from the right for Russell to head in at the back post.
