Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

St Mirren (6) v Dumbarton (0)

Saturday 28th July 2018, Kick Off 3pm

Betfred Cup

Sons ended a promising Betfred Cup campaign with a crushing and confidence sapping 6-0 defeat to St Mirren and it was 90 mins to forget at the Simple Digital Arena.-

Dumbarton never got going in a game that could have seen them qualify for the last 16 of the competition, but it simply wasn't to be with the contest lost in the first half hour.

With Sons settling into their formation, they found themselves 1-0 down after just 60 seconds when Saints left-back Coulson cut inside Perry to fire past a helpless Grant Adam.

Coulson almost made it two for him and his team but his well struck shot cannoned off Adam's right hand post with the keeper a mere spectator.

Former Son Paul McGinn provided the assist for the inevitable second goal for St Mirren with Cammy Smith getting on the end of his cross.

The game was effectively over as a contest just three mins after the half-time break when Ross Stewart headed home.

Stephen McGinn made it four soon after with a powerful strike from 30 metres with Adam again unable to stop the shot.

The Buddies went nap in 82 mins with Kellerman poking home following some dreadful defending by Dumbarton.

And Sons' misery was complete on 85 mins when Cammy Smith spotted Grant Adam wandering too far from his goal-line and his long distance lob sailed into the net.
