Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

Morton (0) v Dumbarton (0)

Saturday 28th November 2009, Kick Off 3pm

Active Nation Scottish Cup

THE two teams must do it all again at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium on Saturday after this stalemate at Cappielow.

There were chances at each end, but defences and goalkeepers were on top to ensure a clean sheet each.

Sons will now play Morton at home in the replay on Saturday, with the scheduled Second Division fixture at Stirling Albion to be re-arranged.

Manager Jim Chapman said: "We were really pleased with the work ethic and commitment shown against Morton, coping admirably after coming under a bit of pressure. They threw everything they had at us but we stood firm and with a bit more belief, hopefully we can make the replay even more interesting."

Keeper Jan Vojacek made two decent early saves, firstly from Jim McAlister and then from Brian Wake.

Sons responded with an Andy Geggan shot which went just over from the edge of the area with Roddy Hunter well placed for a pass.

Vojacek again saved from Wake, while Hunter's header from Geggan's cross was stopped by Colin Stewart.

The second half started with a Geggan shot which was saved before Scott Chaplain had a shot from the edge of the area which went straight at Stewart.

Morton came back with an Erik Paartalu volley which went just over, and sub Brian Graham then had the ball in the net but had been flagged offside.

An audacious long-distance effort by Stevie Murray went just over, while Graham and Peter Weatherson were off target for Morton.

The closing minutes saw an exciting finish to the game, with Weatherson blasting just over for Morton.

Then Derek Carcary was sent through by Ross Clark's pass, but Stewart raced from his goal and made the save.

In injury time Vojacek made another save to deny Kevin Finlayson a winner which would have been harsh on Sons.
