Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

Dumbarton (0) v Oxford United (2)

Saturday 17th July 2010, Kick Off 2pm

Pre-Season Friendlies

ENGLISH League Two side Oxford United's superiority told as they won on their friendly visit to Dumbarton.

Alfie Potter opened the scoring in the first half while Sam Deering doubled the lead midway through the second half.

Sons battled hard, but found chances hard to create against what was simply a stronger team.

Oxford dominated from the start, with Stephen Grindlay denying James Constable with a sliding tackle while the keeper then saved from Deering.

However, the opener came on 19 minutes when Grindlay parried a shot by Asa Hall and Potter was there to score.

Allan McManus then got in the way of a Constable shot, while the same Oxford player's effort from the resulting corner struck the bar.

Constable then hit a post with a close range effort for Oxford, while Sons' best chance of the half came near half time. However, Derek Carcary's low shot from distance was narrowly wide of the near post.

In the second half, Ross Campbell was put through, but skewed his shot past.

Then on 67 minutes, Grindlay came out to deny Ben Purkiss, but Deering perfectly chipped home the loose ball from the edge of the area.

Aaron Woodley had two late chances for Oxford, but they did not come to anything and the visitors settled for a 2-0 win.
