Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872
East Fife (0) v Dumbarton (6)
Saturday 27th August 2011, Kick Off 3pm
Irn Bru SFL Division Two
DUMBARTON put their faltering start to the league campaign firmly behind them with a devastating 6-0 win at East Fife.
And striker Bryan Prunty had a field day, grabbing four goals and of course taking possession of the matchball after the game.
A delighted Alan Adamson said: “Well, that was just terrific from the lads today.
"We didn't have a single failure throughout the team and we managed to keep a clean sheet too which is particularly pleasing.
“The team spirit shown was fantastic and the players got their rewards. However it's just one game and now we have a break for the Scotland international before we meet league leaders Arbroath. The tough games keep coming thick and fast.”
With Alan Lithgow suspended, skipper Paul Nugent was recalled to the line-up and Sons intent on taking the game to their hosts was evident from kick-off.
Scott Agnew went desperately close to an opener after 15 minutes but his low drilled shot was cleared off the line with Fife 'keeper Brown beaten.
However two minutes later Sons took a deserved lead via Martin McBride screamer with the lead doubled in quick succession thanks to a Bryan Prunty toe-poke from inside the six-yard box.
Ewings, who was rarely troubled, produced a decent stop from Bobby Linn in a rare East Fife attack before Prunty set himself up for a hat-trick on the half-hour when he scored his second goal and effectively killing the game.
Jamie Lyden added a fourth with a magnificent header right on the half-time whistle to give the noisy travelling support plenty to be happy about during the interval.
Unsurprisingly, the start of the second half proved a sluggish affair but Sons looked likely to add to their tally and did so via Prunty's third on 79 minutes.
The big striker fired home from eight yards after great lead-up work by Nicoll.
East Fife were awarded a penalty when Lyden tripped an on rushing Ryan Wallace, but Ewings made a great save from the spot-kick to keep the chances of a clean-sheet alive.
Prunty added a sixth and his fourth on 85 minutes after a great run from midfield by sub Keiran Brannan, with a top-drawer 18-yard drive to seal the victory.
