Dumbarton (1) v Partick Thistle (1)

Saturday 19th July 2014, Kick Off 3pm

Pre-Season Friendlies

GLASGOW Fair weekend kicked off at the Bet Butler Stadium with Dumbarton hosting Partick Thistle in their third friendly of the 2014/15 pre-season.

It was a competitive pre-season clash in continual rain on a dark afternoon, and it ended all square at 1-1.

Bryan Prunty's diving header gave Sons the lead before a deflected 20-yard Ryan Stevenson shot deceived Stephen Grindlay to bring the Jags level.

Sons started the game enthusiastically but for the first twenty minutes of the match, neither 'keeper was troubled.

However on twenty-four minutes Dumbarton showed some attacking threat and Scott Fox did well to palm away a dipping shot from Jordan Kirkpatrick.

A well timed tackle in midfield from Chris Turner thwarted a possible Thistle attack before Sons trialist Archie Campbell tested Fox again with a distance shot which the Jags stopper did well to block.

Thistle's first real chance of note arrived on the forty-fourth minute with a curling Higginbotham effort that drifted wide of Grindlay's left-hand post.

Scott Taggart and Bryan Prunty were half-time subs and the latter gave Dumbarton the lead on fifty-seven minutes.

A whipped Kirkpatrick cross found the experienced Prunty diving full stretch to guide the ball past Fox to make it 1-0.

Eleven minutes later Stevenson's 20-yard drive was deflected on route to Grindlay's goal with the big Sons no.1 stranded as the ball bulged the back of his net for the equaliser.

Both teams then made several substitutions which disrupted any flow the game could have had, though Thistle, via McMillan, could have gone ahead but for a good save by Grindlay.

At the other end, with the final whistle not far off, youth player Donald McCallum brought Fox back into action with a weaving run and shot which forced a corner.
