Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872
FAMILY FORTUNES FOR THOMMO - OR NOT!
Saturday 4th February 2017
THERE were many people at Dumbarton today who would have been happy to see Robert Thomson score the goal which rescued a point against St Mirren.
Not many of them would have been in the away end. But one would have had mixed feelings - his father Kenneth.
The big forward scored his sixth goal for Sons in the 2-2 draw against the Paisley side. It was his first home goal in the league, and as a native of Houston, Renfrewshire, it was against his local team.
But family ties had to be forgotten about as he latched on to Christian Nade's header and earned a point.
He said: "We did really well. We stuck together in the circumstances and I think it's a very good point to take, with St Mirren going in front twice and us responding. It shows the character we have.
"Any goal is enjoyable for me, but in the circumstances today's goal was a bit more enjoyable - although I'm not sure what my dad will think!
"He was here today and was going to give me a lift home. I think I might be walking home now - only kidding!
"In the last few games we've shown we're more than capable. We're dominating games, playing as a team and we've shown we're capable of playing some good football.
"People say today and the Ayr game are pressure games. But there are 12 games left and every game is as important as the next one."
Midweek paper talk this week linked Robert with a move to another Championship club at the end of the season.
But he insisted that nothing is sealed in relation to his future, and his focus is purely on helping Dumbarton to a place in next season's Championship.
He added: "Nothing is signed. I'm at Dumbarton until the end of the season and will get to my future when the time comes.
"I'm just enjoying my football here and looking forward to the next game."
