Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

Thursday 3rd August 2017

SAM WARDROP has seen it done already this close season.

Two players who came to Dumbarton on loan, having played in the Celtic youth ranks, have made it at Premiership level. Jamie Lindsay is on loan to Ross County while Calum Waters is a Kilmarnock player.

And who is to say that Joe Thomson, another Parkhead loanee who had a successful spell with Sons, won't do likewise?

Now Sam hopes he can be the next in that line, having become the club's latest signing ahead of the new league season.

He has yet to make his debut, having joined after Saturday's Betfred Cup finale at Kilmarnock, but can't wait to get started.

Speaking to www.dumbartonfootballclub.com, Sam said: "I'm delighted to sign, especially for the full season. I'm looking forward to it.

"It was good to meet all the boys and the management before my first training session on Tuesday, and I thought the standard was really good.

"Everybody was very welcoming and I'm looking forward to working with them again as the weeks go by.

"If Celtic still need me to play in games, I can play under the terms of my loan, but the focus is more on playing for Dumbarton.

"Jamie is now away to Ross County, so I didn't get the chance to speak to him, but I spoke to Joe about the move.

"He spoke really highly of the club and said that everybody was really good to him. It worked out really well for everybody when he was here.

"It's good to have a bit of information before I've signed. All three of them have done really well off the back of their time at Dumbarton so I can't wait to get started."

As well as on a personal level, Sam is also aiming high for the team during his season-long stay with Sons.

He added: "Personally, it's just about getting as many games as possible.

"I'll be trying to help everybody get the best result they can, and help the team do well in the league and cup competitions.

"I'm capable of playing anywhere across the back, but right back is probably my strongest position."
