SONS CRUSH SPIDERS

Friday 16th July 2010

DUMBARTON recorded a second good pre-season victory when they beat third division Queen's Park 5-2 in a closed doors game at the Inverclyde National Sports Centre at Largs yesterday evening.

They took the lead in just ten minutes with a magnificent goal by Martin McNiff, who sent a stunning strike from well outside the penalty box into the top corner of the net. Soon after, Andy Geggan scored direct from a free kick.

Before half-time Scott Chaplain netted a brace — the first with an overhead kick and the second from the penalty spot — to make it 4-0 at the interval.

Early in the second half Queen's Park pulled one back, and soon after manager Jim Chapman sent on Ryan McStay and Allan McManus for Chaplain and Geggan.

The fifth goal arrived after excellent play by Graham Wilson (pictured) set up Alan Cook who netted with a good finish. Shortly before the final whistle the Spiders grabbed another consolation goal.

Dumbarton: White; Nugent, Wallace, Mushet, Cook; Chisholm, Geggan (McManus 60), McNiff, Wilson; Chaplain (McStay 60), Brannan.
