SONS AND SAINTS DRAW

Monday 19th July 2010

DUMBARTON shocked premier division St Mirren at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium this evening with a very well deserved 2-2 draw.

Jim Chapman's men matched their illustrious visitors in every department and could easily have snatched victory. With a rash of substitutes being sent on, for the last few minutes Sons were playing with seven under 19 players — none of whom looked out of place.

Stephen Robb opened the scoring for Danny Lennon's Saints midway through the half with a close range effort, but soon after Derek Carcary was played through by Andy Geggan, beat a defender, then sent a swerving shot into the net to level the score.

After the break neither side could establish dominance, and it took a soft penalty award to put Saints ahead, Michael Higdon beating substitute keeper Michael White from the spot.

It took only a few minutes for Carcary to net his second equaliser, when an Iain Chisholm cross beat all the defenders to let the Sons no.10 in to blast home from close range.
