Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

Monday 1st January 2018

SONS are first foots at Palmerston tomorrow with Queen of the South our New Year hosts.

Dumbarton's first game if 2018 will be a tough test for Stevie Aitken's squad, but the Sons manager is characteristically looking forward to the match.

He said: "All games in the Championship are not easy, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

"Our record at Palmerston is mixed and we need to be wary of a reaction to their weekend Falkirk defeat."

Sons and the Doonhamers have met each other over 118 matches, with 44 wins, 55 defeats and 19 games ending in a draw. Stuart MacIver has scored the most DFC goals against the Dumfries club with 6. From the present squad, Christian Nade has notched 3 strikes with Tom Walsh and Greg Morrison adding a goal each.

Craig Barr, Kyle Hutton and Sons skipper Andy Dowie (pictured) have turned out for Queens in recent times and others 'who have played for both' include Chris Kane, Iain Russell, Stephen Grindlay, Stephen Dobbie, Andy Stirling, Joe Thomson, Stevie Murray and Ryan McStay.

New signing Liam Dick is added to the squad, but Chris McLaughlin is out and will be for a number of weeks. Mark Stewart continues to improve and there will be checks on the fitness of Dimitris Froxylias ahead of the game. Suspended is Kyle Hutton, who will miss two matches.
