Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

GAFFER DISAPPOINTED AT POSTPONEMENT

Friday 19th January 2018

SONS manager Stevie Aitken expressed his disappointment at today's decision to postpone tomorrow's William Hill Scottish Cup tie against Peterhead.

Speaking to dumbartonfootballclub.com, Stevie was a frustrated man - he said: "Having made extensive preparations for what is an important game, the match being called off is a real blow.

"Not just for us, but for Peterhead too.

"And for the fans it's not an ideal situation for the midweek rescheduled game given the distance involved.

"The lads were really ready for it for tomorrow and were wanting to play.

"Unfortunately that frustration is there."

The manager confirmed that the squad will have a training session tomorrow if weather allows.

"We will try and get together if we can. Training in the last week has been difficult because of the conditions so I'm looking to fix something up."

In terms of squad availability, the gaffer confirmed that one player is making better progress than expected with another still not quite right.

"Jimmy (Froxylias) is improving and would have been in contention to start at Peterhead but unfortunately Mark Stewart is still a few weeks away yet, which is a blow.

"Sam Wardrop too is still struggling, but we'll see what happens over the weekend."

Stevie is trying to press ahead with a recruitment push, with a couple of newcomers on the radar.

"It's a difficult period to sign players", said the Sons boss. "We are actively looking and hope to bring in additions, but there is nothing imminent to report."

In other news, Kyle Hutton has agreed terms to remain at the club until the end of the season with all paperwork expected to be tidied up in the next week.
