Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

SETBACK FOR SONS AGAINST STENNY

Saturday 14th April 2012

DUMBARTON'S efforts to secure a promotion play-off place in the Irn Bru SFL Second Division suffered a disappointing setback at the Rock this afternoon, as Sons went down to a 2-0 home defeat against Stenhousemuir.

The damage was done early in the first half. A push on the Warriors' Grant Anderson, following a cross from ex-Son Nick Devlin, gave the visitors a penalty on 4 minutes. Brown Ferguson converted the resulting spot kick to make it 1-0.

Just six minutes later Stenhousemuir caught Dumbarton on the break, with Andy Rodgers finishing the move through a header to put his side two in front.

In the end there was no way back for Sons from the early damage, despite a strong penalty claim from Craig Dargo and a late sending off that reduced the Warriors to ten men right at the end.

Dumbarton are still in third place in the division, but now sit just one point ahead of Airdrie United (who visit the Rock next Saturday, 21st April) and four points in front of Stenhousemuir and East Fife.
