Thursday 22nd November 2012
EX-Scottish international Ian Murray has been appointed Sons new player-manager.
Edinburgh born Ian (31), has had an illustrious career having played for Hibs, Rangers and Norwich City gaining six Scottish international caps along the way.
Murray began his professional career with Hibernian, where he was appointed captain for the 2004–05 season but in the summer of 2005 joined Glasgow Rangers and he stayed at Ibrox intil 2007 when he secured a move to Norwich City.
A lifelong Hibs fan, Ian returned to Easter Road after his short spell at Carrow Road and in this spell in Leith he played 112 times taking his total appearances for the capital club to 253.
Last season he was awarded a testimonial before jetting off to America to enhance his coaching credentials.
A former Scotland under-21 captain, Ian made his full debut for the national side against Canada in 2002 but he had to wait a further 2 years for his next cap (against Moldova). In total he won six caps.
Sons chief executive Chief Executive Gilbert Lawrie confirmed he and the DFC board had been impressed by Ian.
He said : "We put all the candidates through a very exacting interview process.
"They were all very impressive and it was a tough choice, but Ian fits the profile we had when we started the process.
"Ian's playing background together with his burning desire to succeed as a manager fits perfectly with our own views, especially with respect to youth development.
"We are all looking forward to working with him."
Current interim boss Jack Ross will assist Ian as his No 2 and although Murray will be in attendance this Saturday at East End Park against Dunfermline, Jack will lead the team.
