Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

Dumbarton (0) v Morton (0)

Tuesday 29th June 2021, Kick Off 7.30pm

Pre-season friendlies

NO goals this time. But another 90 minutes banked and another clean sheet.

It probably wouldn't be accurate to say that Dumbarton's friendly with Morton had enough action to make up for the missed drama of the Euros.

But it served its purpose. For the second time in three days a divisionally superior side failed to score past Sons.

And it had its moments which, on another night, could have given either side victory. A worthwhile exercise.

The game's first clear chance came after 20 minutes after Gary Oliver got away down the right for Morton.

His low ball into the box found Reece Lyon but Sam Ramsbottom smartly turned away the shot.

But Sons didn't have to wait much longer for their first sight of goal. After Joe McKee found Kalvin Orsi, the striker chested the ball down for Ross MacLean.

After a return pass, Orsi was unlucky to see his bending shot hit the post and rebound away from goal.

Within a minute of the second half starting, almost a vintage moment. Conner Duthie broke through the midfield and sent in a powerful shot which the Morton keeper turned wide.

The goalie was then on form again to turn wide a close range header by Andy Geggan, who landed awkwardly and needed treatment before being replaced by one of the trialist substitutes.

Morton forced an opportunity midway through the second half when a trialist striker connected with a corner, but his header was wide.

They almost found a way through in the dying stages, but Gregor Buchanan ( pictured) did well to challenge the same trialist striker after he was played through.

Dumbarton: Ramsbottom; McGeever, A Trialist, Lynch, Buchanan, Carswell (B Trialist 66), Duthie (C Trialist 66), Geggan (D Trialist 51), Orsi, MacLean (E Trialist 60), McKee. Duthie came back on to replace Lynch in 87 minutes.
