Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

Dumbarton (5) v Clydebank (1)

Tuesday 30th July 2013, Kick Off 7.30pm

Pre-Season Friendlies

DUMBARTON completed their schedule of pre-season fixtures for 2013/14 with a 5-1 victory over local rivals Clydebank in a closed door match at the Bet Butler Stadium.

The game had been scheduled as an open door encounter at Holm Park, but unfortunately a drainage problem led to a last minute cancellation of the fixture.

With agreement of both clubs, the match was re-arranged at the Rock for the same evening.

Sons emphasised youth and experimentation in their line-up, mostly using squad players who had not taken part in the Ramsdens Cup first round tie against Stranraer on 27th July.

They featured four trialists. Among those on show was former Scottish international defender Robbie Neilson, whose recent charges have included Dundee United and Falkirk.

Also taking part in the game was Dumbarton assistant manager Jack Ross, who registered as a player for the new season earlier in the summer.

Sons effectively killed off the match in the first half, with goals from a trialist striker (pictured), Bryan Prunty, Martin McNiff and Mitch Megginson.

After the break, Clydebank pulled a goal back, making it 4-1 through a delicate chip that went out of the reach of Sons 'keeper Stephen Grindlay.

Substitute Ally McKerracher then added a fifth for Dumbarton late in the proceedings, to wrap up a confident victory. The final goal came from the penalty spot, following an infringement in the area.

During their pre-season preparations, Sons have played six friendlies between the end of June and the end of July, facing opponents from the first third, fourth and junior levels of Scottish football.

They have won two, drawn two and lost two of these games, in addition to winning the Stirlingshire Cup Final against Falkirk.

Gaffer Ian Murray stresses that the main emphasis of friendlies is fitness, performance, analysis, experimentation and trying out potential signings.
