Dumbarton (0) v Queens Park 20s (2)

Wednesday 25th February 2015, Kick Off 8pm

SPFL Development League

SECOND half goals from opponents Queens Park prevented Dumbarton 20s from building on last week's win in a competitive game at Lesser Hampden tonight.

Chances were at a premium in the first half, as both teams labored for advantage in the shadow of the national stadium.

Dumbarton's keeper Josh Lumsden was admittedly kept busier than his Queens counterpart.

The most noticeable incident of the first 45 minutes involved Sons defender Anderson having to go off with a knock.

Smith was brought on to replace his injured teammate, as youth gaffer Mark Spalding was forced into his first substitution of the game.

Neither side had managed to squeeze a goal by the time the whistle went for the break.

It was 25 minutes into the second period that Queens Park finally took the lead.

A header at the back post caught out Sons' defence to put the home side one in front.

Then a low cross from the left was neatly finished off to double the Spiders' lead and make a Dumbarton comeback more difficult.

Spalding responded with a double substitution. A Clark replaced Hopkins and McIntyre made way for a trialist.

However, despite their efforts, Sons could not find a way back into the game.

"I am disappointed with the defeat, especially after the previous week's performance and result,” said Spalding afterwards.

"We had the opportunity to try and put together a run, however we didn't perform to the level we can.... It's a work in progress.”
