Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

Friday 7th June 2019

HE was our captain and our leader. He remains our legend. But most of all he was our friend.

Today, Dumbarton FC remembers Gordon Lennon, who 10 years ago today was tragically taken from us, his family and his friends far too soon.

Gordon's death aged only 26 came just four weeks after he had lifted the Third Division trophy after a remarkable ending to the season.

Thirteen points off the top at the end of February, and 10 points away at the end of March, Sons rallied to claim the silverware, which to this day remains the club's last league title.

Gordon died on Sunday, June 7 2009 after a tragic accident while on a weekend break with his family.

Only five months earlier, he had become a father to son Kai, who more recently was our mascot at a home game with Hibernian in January 2017.

We are glad that the Lennon family continue to be part of Dumbarton FC, most recently attending the home fixture with Stranraer in April.

Gordon Lennon may be 10 years gone, but he has never been, and will never be, forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family today.
