Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

Friday 6th September 2019

DUMBARTON are out of match action tomorrow, with their Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup exit last month meaning they have no game.

It means an extra week to focus on the next challenge, which takes place at home to Airdrieonians on Saturday, September 14.

Manager Jim Duffy said: "We might not have a game but the players will not lose any match sharpness ahead of the Airdrie game.

"We know how we can keep them in shape during the absence of a match and will put that plan into action during the lay-off.

"The next game can't come quickly enough for us, but sometimes you just have to wait and use your time effectively, and that's what we'll be doing."

There is one game in League One tomorrow, which whatever the result, will affect Sons' place in the table.

Forfar play East Fife at Station Park, and a draw will be enough to move the visitors into second place on goal difference, with a victory moving them top.

But if Forfar win the game, they will take over at the summit. Whichever of the three possible outcomes happens, Sons will end tomorrow in third place.

They will, though, will have the opportunity to enhance their position when they play Airdrie at home next Saturday.

The manager added: "With it being our home game, a good crowd would be a further boost for us on top of the recent results.

"The fans have made a big difference during our recent winning run. We thank them for that and know that they will keep it going."
