RAIL SAFETY WORKSHOPS AT STADIUM

Thursday 27th February 2020

OUR stadium sponsors C&G Systems have been using the club's ground to host rail safety workshops for young people in recent weeks.

And Dumbarton midfielders Stuart Carswell have been helping to deliver the message to the school pupils about safety near the railways.

Run by Network Rail, 'Stay Safe Off The Tracks' has had more than 200 young people participating in the sessions at Dumbarton to date. Further sessions are also planned for the coming weeks.

A spokesperson for C&G Systems said: "The sessions are attended by the captain or vice-captain of the team who are obviously employees of C&G themselves therefore knowing the dangers of the railway.

"The kids are more engaged being in the stadium and listening to a footballer than just being talked at in an assembly.

"We are able to use facts and relate them to football, for example for a speeding train to stop the length is equivalent to 20 football pitches. The kids are told this fact as they sit in the stand looking at the size of the actual pitch.

"It's using the power of football as a force for good in our community and harnessing the special partnership C&G has with DFC."

It is planned for the sessions to continue until mid-March.

Meanwhile, Bruce Street adult learning centre also visited the stadium for a tour this week.

Any other community groups looking to visit the stadium should contact DFC on 01389 762569 or on office@dumbartonfc.co.uk
