CLUB WELCOMES NEW FUND

Wednesday 17th June 2020

THE news that a Covid-19 crisis fund is being launched by the SPFL Trust has been welcomed by Dumbarton Football Club.

This follows a substantial donation to the Trust of over 3m, to help clubs and support their communities. The generous support comes from James Anderson, a fund manager and partner with Baillie Gifford.

Clubs will be able to use the grant provided they are able to demonstrate support for the wider community in which they are based. This will be a condition of the grant.

Dumbarton FC chairman, John Steele, said: "The offer of financial support via James Anderson and the SPFL Trust is very welcome indeed. We are in the process of expressing interest and applying, along with other clubs.

"We particularly welcome the community emphasis, which chimes with our own desire to root ourselves more and more in the life of the local area, and to provide real benefit to our neighbourhood.

"Of course additional money like this does not solve all the current financial challenges faced by a small club like ours. But it is a real boost. It shows that Scottish football can produce real community benefit and is definitely worth investing in."

The SPFL Trust is an independent, registered charity that works in partnership with all 42 SPFL clubs to develop community activities across Scotland.

Through the power of football it aims to make a real difference, "empowering clubs to create opportunities at the heart of our communities that bring people together and change lives for the better."
