SONS LOSE OUT TO PARS PENALTY

Tuesday 6th October 2020

DUMBARTON returned to action for the first time since March this evening, taking on Dunfermline Athletic in Betfred Group E at the C&G Systems Stadium.

Sadly, it was not to be a winning celebration for a rebuilt Sons line-up negotiating its first competitive outing.

In the absence of fans, because of the pandemic, there was also a first full try-out for the new Pixellot streaming service - which was unfortunately hit by technical problems.

There were chances for both sides in a sometimes robust first half, with the visitors starting to dictate play around the 20-minute mark.

It was the Pars who went ahead from the spot on 26 minutes, after referee Gavin Ross ruled that the ball had hit Morgyn Neill's hand following a cross.

Neill was then booked for his protests, alongside an irate Dumbarton captain Stuart Carswell.

On a damp evening, neither side could add to the score sheet before the break.

After a couple of second half scares Sons came close to equalising on 72 minutes, thanks to a fine strike from PJ Crossan - who cut in and curled a right-footed effort off the post.

Dumbarton 'keeper Kevin Dabrowski remained busy as the game drew to a close.

In the end it was Dunfermline who picked up all three points in this opening Betfred Cup encounter at the Rock.

Our sincere apologies for the difficulties with our new streaming service tonight. The technical problem was with the streamers, and effected a number of games this evening.
