TRICKY TRIP FOR DUMBARTON

Friday 20th November 2020

IT'S a fourth Saturday away from home in a row for Dumbarton tomorrow, facing the long journey to play Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium.

With a demanding Betfred Cup double header against Falkirk and Kilmarnock now consigned to history, Sons are looking to get back on track in League One.

Despite defeat in their last outing, away to East Fife, Dumbarton sit third in the table and with the top two playing each other, an opportunity exists to go higher or close the gap to the top.

That, though, all depends on Sons doing their bit against a Blue Toon side who have aspirations to move further up the table themselves.

Manager Jim Duffy said: "It has been a demanding fixture schedule for us recently and it will be the same again this week, with tomorrow's game followed by Tuesday's clash with Falkirk.

"However, for now we must only concentrate on facing Peterhead, and that is something I know the players will do.

"We know it will not be an easy game. Peterhead have achieved some decent results this season, including wins at Dundee United and Clyde.

"But we battled well at Rugby Park last week and if we continue to show that spirit, and apply ourselves as we can, hopefully that endeavour can get rewards."

Things are getting there in terms of restoring the Sons squad to full availability. Skipper Stuart Carswell has returned to training after missing the League Cup double header and is in contention to play.

However, Rico Quitongo won't be involved tomorrow while Stefan McCluskey, PJ Crossan and Chris Smith remain out.

Ryan McGeever has recovered from the illness which forced his early substitution at Rugby Park and is available for selection.

Sons were actually the last away team to lose at Balmoor Stadium in the league, in January this year, with the usual caveats of course.

Action of course remains behind closed doors, but Peterhead will be streaming the game live. Details are as per our previous story.

Calum Scott will referee tomorrow's game and will have assistance from Andy Milne and Colin McAlpine.
