DUMBARTON SET TO FACE LEADERS

Friday 28th January 2022

IT is a third consecutive Saturday at home for Dumbarton as League One business resumes with a visit from leaders Cove Rangers.

The men from Aberdeen have taken maximum points from Sons so far this season and are starting to pull away at the top of the table.

However, Dumbarton are boosted by the return of players to the squad, and the battling qualities shown in last week's Scottish Cup tie against Dundee.

It is that sort of fight that manager Stevie Farrell is looking for through to the end of the season, with climbing the league table now the only item on the agenda.

The gaffer said: "While we put up a very good fight last week, we can't be congratulating ourselves on it. That game is now in the past and we have a very important return to league action ahead.

"Cove's league position and recent record says it all about what a tough test we face tomorrow, but we must go out there, be brave and compete, and give ourselves a chance.

"We've seen how well we can compete against teams who are fancied to beat us and the benchmark has now been set. We must not let our standards drop from there.

"We must also be ruthless with any chances we get. After our previous two meetings this season we feel we are due a break against Cove, but only we can ensure we get it."

Having been ineligible for last week's cup tie, Gregg Wylde, Adam Hutchinson and Stephen Bronsky are restored to the squad tomorrow. Ross MacLean is also eligible to play after his red card against Dundee was rescinded.

Goalkeeper Kieran Wright has also returned to training but may not start the game to avoid rushing him back into action.

Ryan McGeever and Kristoffer Syvertsen remain out, and as reported earlier today, Andy Geggan and Evan Maley have moved on to pastures new.

Although there is no longer a limit on crowd sizes for outdoor events in Scotland, other Covid protocols remain in place.

Supporters are asked to wear face coverings in indoor areas, except when seated in Bar 72, and encouraged to take a lateral flow test before arrival at the Moreroom.com Stadium.

If you can't attend the stadium tomorrow, live streaming is available as per our previous story.

You can also take part in our 50/50 half time draw remotely - all details are here.

Alan Muir is the referee for tomorrow's game, and will be assisted by Daniel McFarlane and George King.
