CRAIG GORDON CAUSES A STIR!

Sunday 10th February 2013

FORMER Scotland international goalkeeper Craig Gordon had the internet buzzing with excitement yesterday when the news broke of his involvement at Dumbarton FC.

Twitter and Facebook social media sites were alerted to the fact that Craig was to form part of Ian Murray's coaching staff, with the news going viral by the time kick-off arrived at Livingston.

There were even suggestions that the 9 million goalie would be taking his place between the sticks against the West Lothian team!

But the big 'keeper explained that he is looking at ways of staying in football as he has fears his playing days could be over.

Speaking ahead of Sons thrilling 3-2 win at the Braidwood Motor Company Stadium, Craig saiid: "It's very unlikely I will be playing again this season. In fact I'm not sure if I'll play again, so I'm looking to get into coaching as I want to remain in the game.

"I'm not ruling out playing again, but I need to get things in place if the news is not good in that respect."

Explaining his link with DFC, Gordon, who was last seen at Sunderland, said: "I spoke to Ian when we were both together at a tv studio a few weeks ago and we discussed coming in to help out.

"We agreed last week for me to come in and start things at Livingston and it may become a regular thing.

"I enjoyed the game and viewing it from a coaches point of view was fascinating.

"And I was impressed with how Ian and Jack go about things behind the scenes. Very professional."

Craig will travel with Sons reserve team to Palmerston on Tuesday night and it is a game that manager Murray hopes to take part in.

The gaffer explained: "We have two outstanding reserve league fixtures to play against Raith Rovers and Queen of the South. We'll hopefully get the Queens game out of the way next midweek and I intend to play.

"After yesterday's game we are now down to the bare bones in squad numbers, and I may need to be at least on the bench next Saturday for the first team."
