Dumbarton Football Club - Sons of the Rock 1872

Resident Poet

STEPHEN WATT is a poet and performer and was appointed as Dumbarton Football Club's first ever Poet-in-Residence in 2016.

In the same year, Stephen also became the first crime poet to appear at Bloody Scotland, the international crime-writing festival. He is the Poetry Editor for Nutmeg Football Magazine and has previously been Makar for the Federation of Writers (Scotland) and Poet-in-Chief for the Hampden Collection.

As well as five published poetry collections, Stephen has won awards including the StAnza International Digital Poetry Prize, the Tartan Treasures award, the inaugural Liverpool Poetry Prize, and has had work shared in a French art gallery, a German chapel, and on the American metro system. He has edited/curated two punk poetry collections: Ashes To Activists for the Joe Strummer Foundation and Pogo Serotonin for Buzzcocks, and is one-half of gothic spoken word/music collaboration Neon Poltergeist.

Stephen writes poems in our matchday programme The Sons View, and has contributed poems on television, radio, podcasts, newspapers, magazines and even fixtures in the car park on behalf of the club, as well as several engaging performances. Below are links to some of his work. We hope you enjoy.
